Alonso in top form: had a great time!

Fernando Alonso may have experienced many setbacks in the past few months in the service of McLaren-Honda, but this Saturday will definitely remain on the positive side of the balance sheet.

In qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix 2017 the Spaniard waved his car with a bear-strong ride to rank seven. Alonso even moves into the third starting line on Sunday because of a reprimand by Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull).

Yes, yes!”, so the Asturian cried out his joy at the result on the radio. Big cheer in the box of McLaren.” That was brilliant of him,”says team leader Eric Boullier. He’s been so wonderfully determined at work all weekend. In qualifying he guided his car with a lot of passion around the course. Once he got the steering out of the car, he was able to show what was really in the car.”

“Better than expected”

“I am satisfied, really happy. It was better than expected,”writes Alonso.”It was better than expected.” I had so much fun in this qualifying. It was tricky. Again and again, a few drops of rain were on the horizon. You always had to guess what the flu would be like in the next corner. It was a really nice round in Q3.”In the first section he had only about one tenth of a customer in front of teammate Stoffel Vandoorne (13), in Q2 he took half a second from the Belgian.

“The car finally shows a good performance this weekend. Yesterday it was still difficult, but today the balance was much better,”says Alonso. In the race it will be difficult to hold the position. Ricciardo will definitely come forward, Lewis will, too. Let’s see what we can do. But so far I am enjoying this weekend of racing.”This joy was not only to be heard clearly on the radio, but also to be clearly read in the face of the Spaniard.

“Maybe we can get points”

“Tomorrow there will be constant dry conditions. It’s a shame, because changing weather might help us,”Alonso looks forward to the race day in Sao Paulo. In the race track it will be difficult to keep up with the pace of Williams, Force India and Renault, but the Spaniard is determined: “Maybe we can score points, the chances are not bad from starting place six. That would be a nice reward for the work of the boys in the team.”
