Former World Champion Kimi Reikkkun set the best time in his Ferrari to start the final day of the Formula One test trips in Barcelona.
Sebastian Vettel’s 37-year-old teammate was in 1:22305 minutes clearly ahead of Romain Grosjean (France/Haas), who rounded the course in 1:22739 minutes. Place three occupied Stoffel Vandoorne (Belgium) in 1:23918 minutes for McLaren.
World Designer Mercedes faced electronic problems. This is why the three-time world champion Lewis Hamilton (UK) stayed in the garage unintentionally and had to end the test week prematurely. It was a pity that I could not drive, but so far it was great days,”wrote the 32-year-old on Twitter.
Only in the last minutes of the session did the silver arrows send new access to Valtteri Bottas (Finland) to the track in the short term. The 27-year-old successor of Nico Rosberg, however, only made it to nine rounds and occupied eighth place in a time of 1:36512 minutes. The busiest was Nico Hullkenberg, who drove in the Renault 51 round and became sixth with a time of 1:24974 minutes.
On Thursday morning the track was first irrigated artificially to test the new rain tyres. After the course dried up slowly, better times were also driven. In the afternoon it is to be watered again.
The four-time champion Sebastian Vettel did not drive on Thursday. The Ferrari star is only at the same place in the second and last test next week (7th to 10th March). Pascal Wehrlein is still hoping for his debut for clean. The 22-year-old was missing in recent days due to a back injury.
