Exciting: Alonso faces Daytona start

Until the new Formula One season it is still a few months, but for Fernando Alonso the winter break is already over. The Spaniard starts at the end of January at the legendary 24-hour race of Daytona and is already facing the traditional event.

It is a real pleasure to go back to the States in front of these great fans,”said the McLaren pilot before his first rounds on the Daytona International Speedway, which are planned this week.” Within a year I will have contested two legendary races, which makes me proud,”the Spaniard swarmed before his debut.

Already a few weeks ago, the two-time Formula One World Champion took his place in his LMP2 Ligier to familiarize himself with the unusual bolt. Now the first test runs are started together with his teammates.” I can’t wait to get back in the car and drive through this famous Oval,”said the 36-year-old.

He has spent a lot of time in recent months watching old Daytona races. That made me even more curious. Alonso is sure it will be a lot of fun.

Why he decided to start the long-distance event, the Spaniard explained as follows: “I always wanted to prove myself in other racing series in order to become a better driver. Getting out of my comfort zone and driving in such an iconic race is just exciting.”

Fernando Alonso will not be the only current Formula One pilot starting in the U.S. state of Florida. Also Williams driver Lance Stroll wants to try his luck on the Oval.
