Voices, reactions and analyses on qualifying at the Japan Grand Prix in Suzuka.
Nico Rosberg (Mercedes/Startplatz 1):“A great day easy, clear! A nice comeback to Singapore. It’s a relief to be back in the front. The car felt great. It’s really fun to attack in the curves here. A great track.”
Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes/Startplatz 2):“I left some time in curve 11. Nico has done a really good round, but I also feel good.”
Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari/Startplatz 4):“We can be quite satisfied with the result. We had some problems today. It was only at the end of the qualifying period that the car started rolling. So square four is pretty good. Here, the power ratios seem to be back to normal. It’s gonna be hard to get those two Mercedes up front when everything’s normal. But the end of the session gives with a bit of courage.”
Nico Hullkenberg (Force India/Startplatz 14 after being sentenced to three places):“I was simply not fast enough. My round was actually 1a, I was very satisfied, but that was all I could do. I am very confident that there will be some progress in the race. There is supposed to be rain, that would be good for me.”
Toto Wolff (Mercedes Motorsport Manager):“Singapore was an outlaw, we just got rid of the setup. Things are back to normal here. Let’s see what it looks like in the race with the weather, the predictions are changing constantly.”
