Goretzka and Kimmich donate to Auschwitz

The German national football players Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich of the Bavarian FC support the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial in Poland with their “We kick Corona” support action.

As the initiative reported, a donation of 75.000 euros should flow into the educational work there. Because of the Corona pandemic, the memorial had been closed since March. As a result, the institution lacks revenue. The National Socialist concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau in Poland occupied by Germany at the time is regarded worldwide as a symbol of the Holocaust.

“Auschwitz is part of our history and its memory 75 years after the end of the war. We are all called upon not to repeat one of the darkest chapters of humanity. To contribute with WeKickCorona that the culture of memory is also maintained in the Corona pandemic is a matter of the heart for us,”Goretzka and Kimmich wrote, who are currently competing with FC Bavaria at the Champions League Final Tournament in Lisbon.

The two 25-year-old national players had founded “We kick Corona” in March and donated a starting amount of one million euros themselves.
