Hamilton on the phone with Lauda: He wants to get back in shape

Fans of Formula One from all over the world are eagerly awaiting positive news from Niki Lauda. The 69-year-old is still in intensive care at the Vienna General Hospital (AKH) in early August after his lung transplant, but should be allowed to leave in October. Also confirmed Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton at the edge of the US Grand Prix in Austin in an interview with the ORF”. According to the British, Lauda called during the week.

“I spoke to Niki two days ago. He called me. I was really shocked to hear from him. Hearing his voice was the highlight of my week,”says the 33-year-old. Lauda is considered a close confidant of the four-time World Champion. The CEO of the Formula One team from Mercedes piloted the Silver Arrow six years ago from McLaren. In the telephone conversation, the success duo was apparently made fun of again.” I said to him, “Hey Niki, you sound younger than before,” says Hamilton.

Lauda is currently working on his recovery at Vienna Hospital –a lengthy process after the heavy and life-saving surgery in the summer. With physiotherapy, his weakened muscles are to be rebuilt. As soon as he leaves the hospital, the Formula One World Champion of 1975, 1977 and 1984 will have a long rehab. An early return to the racetracks cannot be expected.

“He works as hard as he can. He’s determined to get back in shape. This is great to see,”says Hamilton, who is also planning a visit to Lauda this year.” I’m so happy everything went well. He is very grateful to the doctors for their good work.”Meanwhile, the 69-year-old follows the Formula One races on TV from his sick bed. On Sunday he could see his “protege” from Great Britain introducing his fifth Formula One World Championship. It would be

the second most beautiful victory for Lauda this year after the battle he won for his life.
