The former world ranking official Angelique Kerber did not let himself be disturbed by a long rain break at the WTA tournament in Rom e and moved into the second round.
The 33-year-old won on Monday with around 1, Eight million dollars donated sandbox event against the French Alize Cornet with 6:2, 7:5.
Kerber now faces the world ranking third Simona Halep. The Romanian woman is number three in the Italian capital and had a free hand for the first round.
Kerber first showed a strong performance in the sixth meeting with Cornet. In the second set, Kerber took four games in a row before Cornet was able to play her first feature. After that, the world rankings-60 rose up and reached up to 5:5, but Kerber turned her first match ball into a victory after 1:36 hours.
Winner’s Championship eliminated
Laura Siegemund is already eliminated in the first round. The 33-year-old, number 55 of the world and number two of the German rankings, was subordinated to the Argentinean Nadia Podoroska with 6:2, 6:7 (3:7), 1:6.
