Official: Sainz departs from 2018 for Renault

Nico Hilkenberg can adjust to a new teammate for Formula One season 2018: Carlos Sainz is awarded by Toro Rosso to the Renault F1 team. This was announced on Friday in Singapore.

It is another domino stone that has fallen in the big chair gap between the Red Bull Empire, Renault, McLaren and Honda. At the same time, Jolyon Palmer will have to clear his cockpit after Formula One season 2017, but may finish it.

Sainz will not leave Red Bull but will only be temporarily deported. So he’s still part of the Red Bull family. Christian Horner explains this to Sky: “Our drivers are not available. They can be lent, but they can’t be disposed of. Carlos Sainz will continue to be part of the Red Bull family.”

New Paths

Sainz has been promoted by Red Bull for years and has been in Formula 1 since 2015. He has since then headed for the Toro Rosso team, the Red Bull Junior School. In the first year he had to stand up against Max Verstappen and was defeated in the team-internal duel with 18:49 points. This was mainly due to numerous technical failures. The relationship with Red Bull deteriorated in the spring 2016, when the mother team instead of the unfortunate Daniil Kwjat Verstappen instead of promoting Sainz.

Sainz and his father, Carlos Sainz, felt a stagnation in the career of the 23-year-old today. In order to prevent a fate such as Sebastien Buemi, Jaime Alguersuari, Jean-Eric Vergne and Co., they stretched their senses to Enstone in winter 2016/17, for which Sainz is a clear candidate. But Red Bull blocked a change of the young Spaniard, and they wanted to keep him. Only recently did Sainz and Red Bull get closer.

Now the Spaniard can switch between McLaren and Toro Rosso in the course of the motor trade, If only temporarily: Red Bull gives it to Enstone for one year in exchange for the Renault engines for Honda aggregates. In Formula One season 2018, Toro Rosso becomes a new Honda team with a perspective for Red Bull from 2019, and McLaren receives Renault engines. The marriage between the British and the Japanese is over after almost three completely unsuccessful years together.

In addition to Sainz, another Red Bull member leaves the bull family in the direction of Enstone: Aerodynamic Chief Pete Machin was piloted out of Milton Keynes in the summer.” The new structure will not be successful until 2018,”Cyril Abiteboul says to”Auto Motor and Sports.” It is important that we set the right course for the future and do not let the present distract us too much. Nevertheless, we want to deliver results to show that we are on the right track.”
