Renault’s planning a crazy lease?

While some teams have already confirmed their driver pairs for Formula One season 2017, Toro Rosso is still a little uncertain.

Red Bull last drew the option in Carlos Sainz’s contract, but the space next to the Spaniard is currently available. And to add to the abundance, some media now speculate that Sainz 2017 may not even be going for Toro Rosso, despite the Red Bull contract. In the room there is a curious rental business with Renault.

Background: Already for some time it has been reported that the French should have an interest in Sainz, because one should not be completely happy with the performances of the current pilots. So Kevin Magnussen only scored once this year, teammate Jolyon Palmer is still waiting even after the tenth season race for his first numerator in formula 1.

But why should Red Bull give up Sainz? The cops are speculating on financial interests. The fact is that both the A-Team and Toro Rosso 2017 will drive with Renault engines. And the top floor of the cops has often said that one is not happy with the currently high engine prices in formula 1. A lease from Sainz could possibly be charged with the price of the drives.

Sainz himself does not believe in lease

I don’t know if t hat’s a possibility,”says Sainz and explains:”It depends on Red Bull. It would be a bit strange, because Red Bull has extended my contract, because they want me. You don’t want to trade me for anything else. They may still change their minds, but it would be quite strange.”The fact is, however, that Renault is quite familiar with”leasing business”.

This year Esteban Ocon is the official replacement driver of the workshop team, even though the Frenchman has a contract with Mercedes, for which he is also starting in the DTM. So why not try something similar with Sainz?” I’ve heard, of course, that Renault might be interested in something like this. I don’t know how much of this is true or if it could happen. But I don’t think so,”the Spaniard seems rather skeptical.

“It’s a compliment that shows Renault’s interest,”he holds. However, he seems to see his future in the Red Bull family. He enjoys “a lot of support” from Helmut Marko, Christian Horner and Co. and is therefore not currently thinking much about his future. Nevertheless, the 21-year-old also knows: “One can never know what happens in formula 1.”

Kvyat leaves the future open

While Sainz is likely to stay with Toro Rosso, Daniil Kvyat’s future is somewhat more open. The Russian must prove himself again after his demotion from Red Bull to Scuderia and has not yet been confirmed for 2017.” There’s no point in being angry or sad. It’s no use to me. I just have to keep doing my job, it’s as simple as that,”explains Kvyat in a conversation with””regarding its downgrading.

“For the moment I simply focus on every single day, not the next week, next month or next year”, the 22-year-old explains his current approach. Toro Rosso was an “excellent team” and for him “like a home”. He himself is still “hungry”, which is why he will continue to see himself in formula 1.

But will Kvyat remain part of the Red Bull family in the years to come? I like Toro Rosso, but of course there are a lot of things we need to talk about,”he explains. It’s not good enough for me to be one of 22-year-olds. I want more. I want to be the best of the 22’s! This may be the difference between me and many other drivers,”says Kvyat. However, at the moment it seems unlikely that he will make the breakthrough –at least with Red Bull.

No Red Bull alternatives?

“At the moment I do not have an easy time, so it can only get better,” says Kvyat, who does not want to put pressure on himself. With regard to a contract for 2017, he explains: “I did not set a deadline, I am relaxed there.” Red Bull seems to want Kvyat to think “possibly also for lack of alternatives. For Junior Pierre Gasly, who last won his first GP2 victory in Silverstone, the jump to formula 1 would probably come too early.

“We do not want a new driver just because he is new. We want a driver when he has the potential in our eyes to win a race. And at this point, I don’t see anyone else,”motor sports consultant Helmut Marko confirms to De Telegraaf and says,”We want to, Toro Rosso fights for place four or five in the design championship and t hat is only possible with two good drivers.”

He describes the exchange of Kvyat and Max Verstappen as a”win-win situation”and explains:”Understanding has shown that he can withstand the pressure in a top team. And now Kvyat is trying to get back together with Toro Rosso. He is more relaxed and open than at his time at Red Bull.”Accordingly, Kvyat seems to have good cards, also 2017 continues to drive for Toro Rosso –
