Ashleigh BartyKarlo has fulfilled a childhood dream with the Wimbledon victory. She is the first Australian title-holder since 41 years
Completely overwhelmed Ashleigh Barty went to her knees, After fulfilling her great childhood dream, the tears flowed, and yet she still had the strength for a daring climbing match.
After her first Wimbledon victory, the Australian woman clapped into the stands in her box, warmly hearted her success coach Craig Tyzzer, Then on the “holy lawn” she received the Venus Rosewater Dish radiantly.
“This is incredible,” said the world ranking list most visibly stirred and had the laughter on her side when she said, that she could no longer remember the match ball in front of her emotions.
Before excitement she “did not sleep much last night,” Barty said, yet she defeated the Czech Karolina Pliskova with 6:3, 6:7 (4:7), 6:3 and stormed to her second major title after the French Open 2019.
Emotional and historical triumph for Ashleigh Barty
Particularly emotional for Barty was that half a decade after the historic premiere of her great role model Evonne Goolagong Cawley, she put on the crown in Wimbledon. “She was a very emotional person for Barty. I hope I made Evonne proud,”she said, and burst into tears again.
1971 Goolagong Cawley had triumphed in Wimbledon as the first descendant of Aborigines, the native Australian. Also the 25-year-old Barty has indigenous roots, and to remind her of the memorable premiere of her country wife, she wore an outfit throughout the tournament that was similar to her model fifty years ago. In the 1980s, Goolagong Cawley won again on Church Road, and until Saturday, no Australian woman would ever reach the final.
Like Barty, Pliskova had reached the final game in Wimbledon for the first time, a duel of two newcomers had been held for the title in the last 1977’s. Barty can look forward to a cheque of almost two million euros, for the underprivileged there are well half, and Pliskova must also continue to wait for her first big title. Already 2016, she had lost the final of the US Open against Angelique Kerber.
Prince William and his wife Kate see the final
In front of Prince William and his wife Kate, Barty, who had eliminated in the semi-final the German number one Kerber in a high-class match, set off an explosive start. The first 14-points belonged to her, up to 4:0 Pliskova had nothing to say.
With the top value of 54 aces the Czech had moved into the final, but Barty, who had to give up at the French Open in the second round because of hip problems, But even after sentence one was lost in half an hour, Pliskova did not show up. The protector of the German success coach Sascha Bajin, who had led the Japanese Naomi Osaka to two Grand Slam victories, returned in the second set from a break delay.
Finally it was the expected match at eye level. Once again, she struggled as Barty hit the match, forcing the third set with two nets in the deep break.
There, however, the Australian quickly shook off the shock, with an early break set the course for victory and fulfilled a childhood dream after 1:55 hours – 2011 had already won the title in Wimbledon with the juniors.
