Why Thiago (not) fits to FC Liverpool

Is he staying or is he leaving? Thiago’s staff has been asking this question for weeks now. The FC Bavaria would only like to extend with the triple winner, but the one who farts. A change to FC Liverpool is still considered likely. Yeah, would that even fit?

In addition to David Alaba’s staff, FC Bavaria needs to clarify another key personnel issue: What about Thiago? The 29-year-old’s contract expires in the summer 2021, the record master would only like to tie him up too much longer.

The Spanish ballplayer himself does not allow much insight into what he is up to. First he emphasizes, “I never said I was leaving Bavaria”, and then he asks himself if he will change, to say goodbye with a quick “Ciao”. This was not a very clear commitment to FC Bavaria.

Even before these statements about the UEFA Nations League games, CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed that an offer was expected internally. FC Liverpool is still considered the most promising candidate. Yes, would Thiago and the LFC even fit together?

Klopp remains faithful to his strategy

One thing is certain: With his qualities and his way of playing Thiago would be an absolute reinforcement for every club in the world. With his achievements in the Champions League final tournament, he underlined his Nimbus as the (secret) brain of FC Bavaria.

With his excellent eye and his millimetre-precise examples, he would undoubtedly help FC Liverpool. But the “Reds” have no real need for urgent action, says Manager Jurgen Klopp: “I am completely happy with my team”.

For this reason, as in the past summer, the Liverpool transfer policy: With left-wing defender Konstantinos Tsimikas (came for 13 million euros of Olympias Piraeus), the LFC picked up exactly one player that had not been signed before. This makes Anfield Road the counterproposal to the competitor FC Chelsea of the Stamford Bridge, who has bought for almost all teams for expensive money.

In the middle field of his 4-3-3 formation Klopp has clocked with Georginio Wijnaldum (29), Fabinho (26), James Milner (34) and Acting Captain Jordan Henderson (30) equal to four players of format. With the exception of Milner, they are all in the best football age, which is an elementary aspect of the cadre design.

The former Leipzig Naby Keita is still there and Marko Grujic announced after his loan to Hertha BSC that he would like to assert himself. In addition, Curtis Jones comes from his own offspring, who is also granted a regular spot in perspective.

If you believe English and Spanish media, you should first create space to commit Thiago. It is said, therefore, that Wijnaldum could be handed over to FC Barcelona to invest the proceeds in the supposed wisher.

Thiago would fit perfectly into the cadre from his age, but it would be an extremely atypical transfer for FC Liverpool, which did not bring any finished players under Klopp. In addition, with his vulnerability to injury, he carries a certain risk that one would not like to take on the Merseyside.

Hitting Barca or ManUnited instead?

President Herbert Hainer made it clear in the “kicker” of the FC Bavaria: “We will certainly not give it away for free.” The Spaniard was “one of the best middleweight players in the world”, so that one would be happy on the Sabine street, The Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo” again speculated about a possible return from Thiago to FC Barcelona. The Catalans are in a state of flux and, just after the stunt of Superstar Lionel Messi, they want nothing more than a return to normality.

Thiago would almost be a savior in need for the hit-and-run club. With his gift of giving structure to the game, he could lead Barca back to the roots. Alone: The new coach Ronald Koeman is unconvinced and would rather commit his compatriot Wijnaldum according to “ESPN”.

The US portal instead brought Manchester United into play as interested parties. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is considered a great admirer of the Spaniard. Moreover, unlike the other competitors, United would not have had to pay the 40 million euros called by the Bavarians even in times of the Corona pandemic.

This is exactly the sum that the Red Devils put on the table just a week ago for Donny van de Beek. And that is the crux of the matter: with the commitment of the 23-year-old Dutchman, the centre-field was occupied. The priority now is the search for a wing stormer.

The more time passes without anything being done, the more likely Thiago will be to stay with FC Bavaria. Whether this condition lasts longer than up to thirty. June 2021 stops, will show. But purely sporting reasons do not speak for a change, after all he plays on the currently best team in the world.
